Living in Madison, SD

Madison is a city located in southeastern South Dakota, and is home to approximately 6,500 residents. The city sits between two lakes: Lake Herman and Lake Madison. The city was originally named Herman in 1880, but was later renamed after Madison, Wisconsin. Madison is home to a community center, many outdoor recreational parks, trails and activities, and a nationally recognized state university: Dakota State University. 

Madison Central School District runs all of the public schools within Madison. There are two public elementary schools (Madision Elementary and Gracevale Elementary), one public middle school (Madison Middle School), and one public high school (Madison High School). The high school's gymnastics program won the state gymnastics meet 16 times in a row (1994-2010), which is a national record. The basketball team also won the state title in 2009 and 2010.
