Garretson, South Dakota is a city located 20 minutes northeast of Sioux Falls and just north of I-90. The city was named after a millionaire railroad investor from Sioux City, A.S. Garretson in 1889. Farming is the main industry in the city, with the most popular crops being corn, soybeans, and oats. Garretson has three city parks that sit along the Split Rock River. The community hosts several events throughout the year for families to enjoy, including the annual "Old Fashioned Christmas" which kicks-off the holiday season. There are also several local and unique business and restaurants to enjoy.
The Garreston School District runs all of the schools within Garretson. There is one elementary school (Garretson Elementary School - grades K through 5), one middle school (Garretson Middle School - grades 6 through 8), and one high school (Garretson High School - grades 9 through 12). The mission statement of the school district is "creating a gateway to life-long learning."
